INERELA+ Secretariat hosted three (3) days of virtual Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on Life Skills and Climate Change from the 7th to the 9th of August 2023. The main aim of the training was to equip a core group of “trainers or champions” with skills and abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. The participants are expected to use the information gained from this training to facilitate sessions, guide, and coach their peers, and advocate for children’s rights in their respective communities. The training was offered to six (6) Country Networks namely, Malawi, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The facilitators covered several topics which included; Unpacking Life Skills and teenage Pregnancies. Gender-Based Violence, Child Protection, safeguarding; Mental Health and Disability, Values, Climate Change, SRHR, Prevention and Living with HIV, Substance Use and Advocacy. The facilitators used the participatory approach during the training with the intention of empowering the participants to take control of their own learning through activities and exercises. The adolescent-friendly participatory approach used active learning methods including, role plays, brainstorming, group learning, case studies and poster making.
