On the 2nd of September 2023, ZANARELA+ organised a dialogue between Sex Workers, interfaith Religious leaders, and the Media with the aim of discussing challenges that are being faced by sex workers and how best to safeguard their human rights. There was a general consensus amongst the participants that Sex Workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and that more still needs to be done to end any form of abuse from physical, sexual, verbal, name-calling, and stigma from the church, mosque, or other places of worship. Speaking at the event, Zambian Developmental Media Alliance (ZADEMA) executive member Derrick Sinjela emphasised the importance of treating sex workers with dignity. He further stated that “sex workers are citizens too and deserve the right to access the Zambian Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC)”.
