INERELA+ Ghana Uses Faith based approaches to end violence against women and girls

Our Project funded by UN Women in Ghana in the densely populated communities of Nima, Chokkor, Chemuena and Jamestown in the greater Accra Region focuses on engaging survivors of gender-based violence to mobilise and influence women and girls who are victims of gender-based violence to re- shape the power imbalance that causes violence. Young girls and women are faced with a cycle like gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies, and poverty. Our initiative titled “Strengthening the Capacity of Religious Leaders to End Violence Against Women and Girls”. Partnerships with civil society, governments and communities has made our work possible to promote gender equality, prevent violence against women and girls and promote access to response services for survivors.

From providing education, psychosocial support, economic support and skills training to adolescent girls and teenage mothers, changing behaviours and norms through faith leaders and champions, to ensuring that the police and department of justice respond to gender violence in a gender sensitive manner and raising awareness at community and congregational level the impact stories below showcase INERELA+ Ghana work to end violence against women and girls.
