Archbishop Mbulelo Dyasi, an extraordinary individual whose life has touched many hearts released his impactful book “Dignity in the Darkness: A Journey of Resilience, Resistance, and Redemption” at a special launch event on the 25th of July 2025. The launch was attended by esteemed guests from the faith sector, government senior officials, civil society organisations, media and influential private sector leaders.
The book narrates his challenges growing up in the rural Newcastle region of northern KwaZulu-Natal, shedding light on his incredible resilience in overcoming life-threatening experiences and personal struggles. With over two decades of experience as a passionate activist and advocate for human rights, gender equality, and AIDS awareness, he embodies dedication and strength while living with HIV.
Through his book Archbishop Dyasi addresses crucial topics, including child abuse, experiences at initiation schools, and the stigma surrounding health conditions like HIV, diabetes, and epilepsy. His story is one of hope, courage, and the unwavering spirit of the human heart. Through a podcast at the same event Archbishop Dyasi tackled pressing issues affecting children and addressed the tragic challenges surrounding initiation school deaths.
His influential roles—such as the National Convenor of the SANAC Men’s Sector, National Men’s Forum of South Africa and co-convenor of the National Men’s Sectoral Parliament—alongside the inspiring #BetterMan4Tomorrow initiative with Deputy President Paul Mashatile, demonstrate his deep commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. As Prof. Dyasi continues to make strides with the South African National AIDS Council Civil Society Forum (SANAC CSF), his efforts have positively impacted countless individuals living with HIV and chronic illnesses.
The event ended with a celebration and acknowledgement of the peace award honorees for organisations and individuals’ efforts in creating peaceful and inclusive societies. Among them honorees was the INERELA+ Executive Director Munya Mandipaza.

Of importance to mention among the people who received the Peace and Humanitarian Award during the launch of Dignity in the Darkness by Professor Mbulelo Dyasi and Divine Restoration by Pastor Enoch Phiri was the Deputy Minister for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike.
