Spotlight on the Service Champion: Madrine Chiku, the voice of the voiceless

Madrine Chiku, is an accomplished multi skilled organizational leader with expertise in HIV & AIDS, Gender, Human Rights, Advocacy, and Safeguard. She is an Executive Director of Research and Advocacy Unit. She seats on several boards including Board Chairperson of Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (CoZ), Board Chairperson of Child Resource Institute International, and Board Vice Chairperson of Foundation Zimbabwe among other governance roles. 

 

Madrine has an unprecedented passion to defend vulnerable groups such as the marginalized of society, her desire is to see the emancipation of women, in a way, which liberates them in a broader sense materially, psychologically, and socially, her ideology compliments feminism because it believes in progress, equality, empowering women and girls. As a subject matter expert of HIV and AIDS, she has been promoting integrated response to HIV and GBV prevention, and access to services and fighting stigma for the past two decades.

 

She is I an accredited HIV & AIDS, Gender and Safeguarding Expert, she has trained

HIV & AIDS, Gender and Safeguard Facilitators in the SADC region, in countries such as Zambia, Malawi, DRC, Angola, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini and Mozambique. In addition, she also established a Holistic Coaching platform where I empower boys, girls, men and women with skills to tackle all of their lives’ bearings and developed and Gender Based Violence policy for one of the church bodies in Zimbabwe. Her work hasn’t been without any challenges, she indicated that lack of evidence on behaviour change despite innervations, lack of budget to implement and monitor the programme and negative patriarchal ideologies as the main challenges in her work.
