Regional Forum for strengthening the role of Religious Leadersin advocating for SRHR/HIV for migrant populations.
Date: 11- 12 June 2018
The meeting on Sexual, reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV among adolescent migrants, young people and migration-affected communities was ably organized through collaboration between INERELA +, International Organization for Migration (IOM), Save the Children Netherlands (SC), the Witwatersrand School of Public Health (WSPH) and the SRHR-HIV Knows No Borders Consortium. This meeting aimed at implementing a holistic regional project to improve sexual and reproductive health as well as HIV (SRH-HIV) amongst migrants living in migration-affected communities in six countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, namely – Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia through collaboration with Religious Leaders. The meeting was attended by 77 participants and it educated on how to effectively advocate for change at all levels. This resulted in the creation of a Regional Steering Group whose mandate is to facilitate the establishment of country advocacy networks and structures and review of the existing SRHR policy, legal framework in the region and identify SRHR RL champions in the SADC countries.
